According to an article I've just read on Slashdot, at least 315 of MGM's so-called "widescreen" DVD releases have actually been the Pan & Scan versions with the top and bottom of the picture cut off. This basically means, when you buy the widescreen version , thinking you're getting the original print of the movie, you're actually getting less picture than the people who bought the P&S version. This is absolutely appallingto me.
There is currently a class-action lawsuit against MGM for this heinous act of flagrant disservice to movie-lovers everywhere. You can see the list of affected DVDs here or go to mgmdvdsettlement.com. You can return your hacked up discs for either a new one, or US$7.10 each.
